Another great Grenadines trip

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

A quick update from Grenada, where we’re getting “Meercat” ready for another trip starting this Friday. On Sunday we finished our T10 trip in the Grenadines, with Elena and Alex. It was good fun, and we’re happy to report that our new kitesurfing instructor/crew member James Gardiner not only survived it but got the hang of Zenith Ocean Voyages completely – despite his jet lag and metrosexual tendencies!

Here’s two pics taken on the last day anchored just behind Happy Island - the group picture at the bottom is a kind contribution from Alex himself, a published photographer. Thanks Alex, much appreciated (we’re looking forward to seeing the rest of your creations).

It was a laugh… thanks Elena and Alex

Back to prepping the boat ready (not to mention the by-now-customary supermarket hunt for chicken breasts…)  There’s a nice breeze blowing and we can’t wait to be back on the water again.

Grenadines trips – fly to Grenada!

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

The Grenadines are a wonderful place to kite (there’s waves, flat water and nobody there!) – partly because they are pretty remote. A lot of people have asked us about flight schedules and it can get somewhat complicated. To make things easier for you guys, we’ve now added the option of flying into Grenada and we pick you up and drop you off there. We have to get organized to do this, so the earlier you book, the more flexible we can be.

With this option, you get a multi-island, multi-country trip!

This is in addition to our “regular” pick-up points, which are Union Island and Canouan Island in the Grenadines (reachable from Barbados), or the island of Carriacou, which is part of Grenada (reachable by ferry or plane from Grenada).

Jolly Harbour, Antigua – the calm before the wind

Marc Rowley livin' de life, yeah

Taken from the mast - Green Island, Antigua

We’ve spent the day getting ready for another kiting tour of Antigua and Barbuda. We’re starting tomorrow and we’ll be expecting Cecilia, Hans (on his birthday!), Dominique, Florian and Nate.
People who don’t do this don’t realize what it takes to get a catamaran ready for sea.

Ged and Marc cleaned the outside (thoroughly!), I did most of the interior… and then there’s the provisioning. In the Caribbean, it’s not just a question of going to the supermarket and buying what you want. The supermarket here at Jolly Harbour is pretty good by Caribbean standards; and yet, I might go one day and think – wow! – and come back the next utterly frustrated – because all of a sudden they have no chicken and don’t know when they’ll have it again…
Well, in the end, on my third attempt (read: fifth visit in three days) they did end up having chicken, so all’s good.
Looking forward to another great week. The forecast’s lovely, the company will be good, what more can one ask for?

Green Island between-session chillin'

We finished our T3 trip yesterday and before we tell you all about it, we wanted to dedicate a quick post to our friends at the 40 knots Kiteboarding School in Green Island, Antigua. We hung out with Chris and Max every day while we were at Green Island and they were great! They gave us very useful tips on local kitespots and conditions and were just generally good fun to be with. Looking forward to doing it again, fellas… see you in a couple of days.
